2020-2021 Return To School Parent Letter

2020-2021 Return To School Parent Letter

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Parents:

The past few weeks have been an enormous challenge for Universal Academy, and especially for educators and parents. At Universal Academy, we firmly believe that returning to school is vital for the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of students. This belief has driven our plan to return to school as soon as possible.

However, last week we have watched as the number of cases of COVID-19 continue to climb in Dallas County. The risks to students, faculty, staff, and parents for an immediate return to in-person instruction have far exceeded what we predicted during back-to-school planning.  These risks have forced us to elect to return to school on Monday, August 31 using our ONLINE LEARNING PLATFORM for the THE FIRST SIX-WEEKS OF SCHOOL (August 31 – October 9).

On Thursday, July 23, the Universal Academy School Board voted on a new calendar for the 2020-2021 school year, with a start date of August 31, 2020. The revised school calendar can be found here: School Calendar. The calendar still includes the Texas Education Agency (TEA) 75,600 required minutes of  instructional time, faculty/staff professional development days, and student holidays.

We expect to adjust our plan for a safe return to school continuously through the year as conditions change and we receive new guidance from Governor Greg Abbott, Texas Education Agency,  and Public Health officials. We must begin to see some decrease in the spread of COVID-19 in our community before returning to school in person. Please stay safe by wearing a mask and avoiding a large gatherings of people. We hope that you continue to follow the guidance of health officials so that the world our children are growing up in can begin to return to normal. Please continue to review the Universal Academy communication platforms for all district updates. We greatly appreciate your continued support of Universal Academy.
