The Pre-K
thru 12th grade curriculum is designed to
meet the educational
needs of every student. Universal Academy’s staff develops
an individualized education plan with a holistic,
interdisciplinary and thematic curricular approach. The
instructional focus is one of interconnectedness, using a
Problem-Based Learning Curriculum.
This curriculum augments the use of an
anthropological view in teaching our students.
All strategies are in compliance with the standards
from councils of the core subject areas, including the (1)
N.C.T.M. (National
Council of Teachers of Math) and the T.E.K.S. (Texas
Essential Knowledge and Skills) created by the Texas
Education Agency.
The science of teaching at Universal Academy will be evident
in the usage of teaching strategies that have reliable data
to support implementation. Some of these strategies will
include, but will not be limited to the following:
-
Performance-based tasks
-
Independent study projects
-
Cooperative learning techniques
-
Problem-based learning
-
Thematic instruction
-
Interdisciplinary instruction
-
A holistic educational approach
-
An anthropological view to teaching all subjects and/or courses
Universal Academy will adhere to the best practices as
related to the pedagogy for classes taught at each grade
level. By focusing on the mind, body and self-esteem of each
student, we will create a holistic educational environment.
Universal Academy students receive instruction in accordance
with the student's academic level
For example, students in grades 8th – 12th
participate in a dual education program. In this program a
student attends high school and college.
Students in this
program are required to maintain a “B” average in both
schools. Subsequently,
a student at Universal Academy may be classified as junior in
college at the end of the student's senior year.
