What is a Charter School?

Charter schools are open to all students and are accountable to the public for academic performance. Charter schools are a promising way to raise academic standards, empower educators, and actively involve parents and communities in the public education. A charter school is a public school exempted from many traditional rules and regulations; this feature allows charter schools greater flexibility to try different instructional approaches. In exchange for this flexibility, Charter schools are held accountable for the achievement of the high academic standards described in their charters.

Our Pegagogy

The science of teaching at Universal Academy will be evident in the usage of teaching strategies that have reliable data to support implementation. Some of these strategies will include, but will not be limited to the following:

Performance-based tasks
Independent study projects
Cooperative learning techniques
Problem-based learning
Thematic instruction
Interdisciplinary instruction
A holistic educational approach
An anthropological view to teaching all subjects and/or courses

Universal Academy will adhere to the best practices as related to the pedagogy for classes taught at each grade level. By focusing on the mind, body and self-esteem of each student, we will create a holistic educational environment.
